Planning Templates

If you are like me, I like to write things down when I am planning. Here is a free collection of planning templates that you can print out and modify. Choose the one that best suits your need.

Google Maps

Discover where you are going. Find the directions from your place to that place. See pictures and find information of the place you want to visit.

World Factbook

The World Factbook provides basic intelligence on the history, people, government, economy, energy, geography, environment, communications, transportation, military, terrorism, and transnational issues for 266 world entities.

Rome 2 Rio

This website helps plan your transportation between destinations hence the name Rome 2 Rio. The simple search feature returns the routes, time taken, and prices of plane, train, bus, rideshare, car and ferry rides from place to place.

Google Flights

One of the most powerful flight search engines. Search over a broad range of parameters. See graphically which days are the cheapest to fly. I use Google Flights to get a good idea of what I can expect to pay on the regular airlines.

Search Multiple Airlines for Best Price

Cheap-O-Air

Skyscanner

Seat Guru

Locate the seat details and plans for every plane on every airline. Find out why you should or shouldn’t select that seat.

The Man in Seat 61

The Man in Seat 61 has detailed information on train and ferry travel throughout the world. Take a train instead of a plane and see the countryside where you travel.

Car Rental

Choose from a variety of car rental companies to get the lowest price available. Remember, it is cheaper to rent by the week than daily.

Accommodations

Search all the accommodation booking agencies on the Internet for the best prices being offered around the world.

Hotel Look

Searches all the hotel booking sites to find the best deal for you.

Booking.com

It is one of the biggest booking sites in the world and is the one I use the most often.  I have used it to book places all over the world. I like the cancellation feature because plans often change. The more you book with Booking.com the more discounts you get off the accommodation price through their Genius loyalty program.

Restaurants

I use OpenTable all the time when going out to restaurants. It takes the pressure off of choosing a restaurant in a new place. Great information on every restaurant so that you can pick that perfect restaurant for your meal.

Personal Tours

Support local people that you are visiting. Tours by Locals has been connecting travelers with local guides since 2008. Each local guide has been carefully selected so that you can rely on their knowledge and expertise. And every guide brings their own unique insights, skill-sets and interests to their tours.

Another good tour company is Viator. Compare tours and prices between the two tour companies.

XE Currency Converter

The standard for converting world currency. Just enter the amount of money in any currency you want converted and get the amount you will receive in the other currency.

Accuweather

Find the weather forecast for where you are traveling. Also check historic weather for the time period you want to go.

Google Translate

Instantly translate from one language to another language. The app will allow for speech translation and it is an app I use all the time.
